About the Project:

Glen Manor Condominium Association is a small, garden style complex of 36 individually owned units, located in Silver Spring, MD.

The 74.8 kW rooftop solar PV system will produce 76,335 kWh of clean, renewable solar energy throughout the first twelve months of use. Over the next 20 years, the solar PV, installed by Solar Energy World, will avoid the consumption of 1,526,700 kWh of energy not sourced from the local utility provider, mitigating 1,020 metric tons of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions. These energy savings will lead to projected savings of $153,940 over 20 years in reduced electricity bills for the building.

“Congratulations to the Glen Manor Condominium Association on the installation of a new rooftop solar system. This project exemplifies the kind of collaborative effort that will help us create a greener, cleaner community. By working with the Green Bank and Skyview Ventures, residents of Glen Manor are taking active steps to reduce their carbon emissions and reduce energy costs, while also helping Montgomery County achieve our climate goals. It’s a win-win-win.”

Financing Details

The solar project will be financed through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement between Skyview Ventures and Glen Manor Condominiums.

Montgomery County Green Bank’s Role

The Montgomery County Green Bank provided a $62,470 direct loan to Skyview Ventures. Additionally, the project was supported by an anonymous donation that helped drive down the cost of power for all residents.

To date, this marks the Green Bank’s second collaboration with Glen Manor Condominiums. Learn more about energy efficiency upgrades at Glen Manor Condominiums.

The Commercial Solar Power Purchase Agreement (CSPPA) program developed by the Montgomery County Green Bank allowed Glen Manor Condominiums to install solar and experience the benefits of solar without upfront costs through a no-money-down rental agreement with Skyview Ventures. In this PPA, or rental agreement, Skyview pays for all maintenance and operations costs, while Glen Manor only pays for the electricity produced by the solar system at a contracted price that is less than the current electricity costs from the utility provider.
