About the Project:
Spring Bilingual, a Montessori Academy in Kensington, MD, is set to install a 19.8 kW rooftop solar system. With programs in Spanish, French, and Mandarin for children ages 2 to 6, Spring Bilingual teaches students to tune into their sense of curiosity as they learn. According to their website, they were founded in 1967 by Ms. Anna Neri, a direct pupil of Dr. Maria Montessori.
The Academy’s new solar system, being installed by Uprise Solar, is expected to generate, on average, 25,347 kWh annually, providing average yearly utility savings of $6,888, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15 metric tons of CO₂ per year.
Financing Details:
The Montgomery County Green Bank provided a term loan of $42,966 to finance the cost of the new solar system at Spring Bilingual Montessori Academy. The new solar system is net metered, allowing any excess energy produced by the system that is not used on-site to be credited back to the building, helping to further offset energy costs.
Montgomery County Green Bank’s Role:
Due to the Montgomery County Green Bank’s participation, Spring Bilingual Montessori Academy received an affordable interest rate on the loan.
