On Sunday, June 11 at 12pm, Sandy Spring Friends Meeting welcomes all community members to a special ribbon-cutting ceremony, Powered by the Light: A Solar Celebration, in honor of our newly installed solar panel array! Come learn about creating a sustainable energy future with local elected officials, representatives from our solar installer, and Sandy Spring Friends Meeting officers.
Kid’s activities will include Monarch butterfly education with free milkweed seeds, constructing pinecone birdfeeders, and refreshing popsicles in compostable packaging! Information tables will be available from Friends in Unity with Nature (FUN), Ward 8 Woods, Interfaith Power & Light, Solar United Neighbors, and Montgomery County Green Bank. FUN will also sponsor a native plant swap, so bring a native plant with you to the celebration and bring a new one home!
This event will be held outdoors (weather permitting) at 17801 Meeting House Road in Sandy Spring. If rain, we will gather in Sandy Spring’s historic Lyceum (same address).
