Scientists Serving Communities (SSC) is the Climate Resilience Network’s annual forum between University of Maryland experts and Maryland community leaders to discuss ongoing environmental issues facing Maryland community leaders, stakeholders, and decision-makers and identify how emerging research can strengthen community climate resilience efforts. This workshop is attended by a diverse group of participants, including policymakers, researchers, community advocates, and industry professionals. With SSC, the Climate Resilience Network hopes to bridge the gap between academic research and practical implementation in community settings.

Takeaways

Stakeholders and researchers should gain knowledge about the challenges that need to be

addressed in different subject areas to move research science into applied science. At a minimum, stakeholders should leave the workshop with several points of contact in subject matter that is most relevant to their efforts in the community. Ideally, longer lasting collaborative efforts are started at the workshop that carry on-the-ground, co-developed projects that Do Good in the region.
